「点字ブロック」を英語でどういう？

2019年3月19日の Google ドゥードゥル（記念日などにGoogle のトップページに公開される楽しいロゴ）のテーマが「点字ブロック」でした。今回は「点字ブロック」に関する英語表現をご紹介します。

点字ブロック、点字舗装

まずは冒頭でご紹介した点字ブロックの Doodle のページをご覧ください。

点字ブロックの正しい名称は「視覚障害者誘導用ブロック」です。しかし、ちょっと長いのでこの記事では点字ブロックと呼ぶことにします。

英語では block（ブロック）は立方体の物を表すときに使う表現なので、舗装用のタイルに関しではなく、壁や塀を組み立てるための建材に使われれます。軽量のコンクリートブロックは英語で cinder block と言います。

英語で表現する場合、次の用語が使われます。

英語	日本語	備考
tactile tile	点字ブロック	「触知」という意味の tactile とtile（タイル）の組み合わせ。
tactile paving	点字舗装	paving は「舗装」という意味。
