お口の悩みに関する英語表現

Canker sores.

今回は「口臭」「口内炎」「歯痛」などお口の悩みに関する英語表現を集めました。専門用語ではなく、日常会話で使わる表現にしぼりました。「こんなにシンプルでいいの？」と思われるものもあるかと思います。

例文の日本語訳はすべて「タメ口」になっていますが、敬語を話すような相手にも失礼にはなりません。

口臭

英語：bad breath

「口臭」は名詞形では bad breath、「口臭がある」は have bad breath と表現します。

I need to get some mouthwash for my bad breath.
息が臭うので、マウスウォッシュを買わなきゃ。

A. You're always chewing gum.
B. That's because I am worried about bad breath.
A. いつもガムを噛んでいるね。
B. 口臭が気になるから。

歯痛

英語：toothache

「歯痛」は名詞形では toothache、「歯が痛い」は have a toothache と表現します。

My toothache is getting worse. I have to go to the dentist tomorrow.
歯痛がひどくなっている。明日、歯医者さんに行ってこなきゃ。

I have a terrible toothache. Do we have any painkillers?
歯痛がすごいんだよね。家に痛み止めはあるかな？

口内炎

英語：canker sore

口内炎は canker sore といいますが、canker は「 潰瘍 （ かいよう ） 」、sore 「ただれ、痛み」という意味なので、口内炎は「痛い潰瘍」という意味になります。英語の方が辛そうです。

A. Ow! I have canker sores again.
B. Rinsing your mouth with salt water might help a little.
A. 痛っ！また口内炎ができてる。
B. 塩水ですすぐと少し楽になるかも。

歯並びが悪い

歯並びが悪い状態は crooked teeth (歪んだ歯）、「歯並を矯正する」は straighten ～'s teeth といいます。「歯並び」とぴったり同じ英語表現はありませんが、「歯並びがいい歯」は have straight teeth と表現します。

歯の矯正のための金属の装置はシンプルに braces といいます。

A. I hate my crooked teeth.
B. Would you like to get braces?
A. 曲がった歯並びが嫌なんだよな。
B. 歯の矯正したい？

A. You have such straight teeth.
B. That's because I wore braces for three years during junior high.
A. 3 years? It was well worth it.
A. すごく歯が真っ直ぐだね。
B. これは、中学の三年間ずっと矯正器具を付けてから。

英語：yellow teeth discolored teeth

喫煙は歯の黄ばみの原因になることがあります。
